Fundraiser for Mexico Summer VBS Ministry

Last Saturday, the young ladies in the Saltillo BM Church made pineapple pies to sell in the neighborhood to raise funds for their Summer VBS Team Project. They sold all the pies quickly and were able to raise about $50 toward their goal. These girls, with their sponsors, Pastor Dolores Herdez Matta and family, will be holding VBS events in the poor areas of Zacatecas and in the mountain missions in Oaxaca. Please pray that God will bless their efforts!

We enjoyed supper at Chili's last night (yes, there's a Chili's in Saltillo, although we hardly ever go there) for Jordan's choice of birthday meal.

We enjoyed playing games with friends that evening...Pastor Dolores and family beat us every time in Dutch Blitz (although we taught them how to play only a few months ago)...lol...

Sunday in La Boca

The weekend before last we visited our Bible Methodist Church in the village of La Boca. This is considered a pioneer church which has basically been re-0pened by Pastor Pablo and Sis. Ofelia in the last 2 years. They are doing a wonderful job and the Lord is blessing them with good attendance and with His presence in their services.

After Sunday School, Sis. Ofelia fixed us a wonderful Mexican meal...here she is making fresh salsa of roasted tomatoes and jalapenos, using a molcajete...a stone grinder.

Weekend in San Rafael

Recently we spent Saturday evening and all day Sunday visiting our Bible Methodist Church in the village of San Rafael.

We stayed again with our wonderful friends, Daniel and Lorena. They had asked me to make them an American Sunday dinner, which I did: Meatloaf, Cheesy potatoes, corn, cole slaw, bread and chocolate cake.

I hosted a Ladies Activity in the afternoon with Bible Study/prayer time and then a scrapbook class. Love these ladies and girls!

The first time ever for any of them to scrapbook....loved the smile on this sweet lady's face.

Marc taught the SS class in the morning, and preached in the evening service.

Logan's Bday Celebration

We celebrated Logan's 12th birthday at the "slide park" in Saltillo....such a fun place! Pastor Dolores and family went with us. We enjoyed a picnic lunch, ice cream sandwiches (Logan's choice....he doesn't care for cake) and hours of fun on those huge slides!!

A more eager to please, easy tempered boy there never has been....Logan loves to work hard and help others.

In Oaxaca, headed for San Gabriel

Got to talk to Marc this morning for a couple minutes. They had a great weekend in Oaxaca/Jayacatlan and are heading south across the mountains to San Gabriel. 6 hours on some of the curviest roads I've ever seen; Marc and 5 of our pastors in our Sequoia. They will be the preaching/teaching team this week through Friday in the San Gabriel church and mountain missions.

Piano Lessons for the Cuatas//Twins

I recently began giving piano lessons to our pastor's twin daughters, Kenya and Christy. We will be doing the lessons on my piano in the church but since it was a frigidly cold day and there's no heat in the church, we opted for a keyboard in my living room.

The girls are smart and learn so quickly.

Those were the heartbreaking words I heard a few minutes ago as Pastor Dolores, his wife Sylvia and I visited in the home (I use the term loosely) of the new family in our church. Most of you know that extreme cold has come to Saltillo - the last few days have been in the 30s and tonight sleet is falling, making all the surfaces icy.

Hugo, 5 years old, had the hood up on his light jacket but was huddled near his mother, shivering with cold. We were sitting in their "kitchen" visiting, encouraging them in the Lord, listening to them talk about their struggles. They have no money, no heat in their home, no refrigerator; the father is barely able to find sporadic work but with the poor economy, sometimes the employers have money to pay him; most of the time they don't.

The couple have 4 boys; their 2 oldest boys spent the day in our home, playing with our boys and eating meals with us. The hunger was obvious on their faces as they ate BBQ Chicken, Cheese Potatoes, Corn, Cole Slaw, Rolls and chocolate chip cookies. Who knows the last time they had chicken to eat?

We prayed with them and Sylvia gave them some hot chocolate and strawberries she had brought from Guanajuato. They were so thankful; someone knocked at the door and brought them a bowl - 1 bowl - of soup; again, so thankful...

We walked out through the sleet to our car and my heart was breaking. I walked in the door of our little house, which now looked like a mansion. I felt the heat from our space heater. I looked at my plastic "pantry" shelves with food on them, at my refrigerator, my microwave....and felt like I had walked into a mansion. I began telling Marc all about it...we started pulling things together to take to them: food items, blankets, an extra electric heater we have. Pastor Dolores and Marc drove back to their house and took them the things we had collected....so thankful, they were.

Lord, help them keep warm tonight, help them keep following You and help me be thankful for the multitude of blessings You've given me. May my hands hold loosely to those blessings so I can share them at a moment's notice with some of your most needy children. And please, Lord, keep Hugo warm tonight......

Our Ministry Trip to Honduras

Marc and I just got back from a wonderful trip to Honduras. Finally, I got to visit and see the place where he was born. He was the main speaker for the Campmeeting in San Luis, Honduras and we participated in the special music also. Such a wonderful time!

A highlight of the trip was getting to meet Hna. Marina in Miramelinda - one of the first converts Dad Sankey had after starting the mission work in Honduras in the 1960's.

The Conference presented us with beautiful gifts on the last night of the camp.

We so much enjoyed getting to stay in the Meltons' home and enjoy their wonderful hospitality and fellowship. Thank you so much!!

Thanksgiving 2010 in Saltillo, Mexico

We started off the day with an awesome Mexican breakfast made by our pastor's wife, Sylvia. Just the 4 of us around their table in the early morning...their kids were already at school (Thanksgiving is not celebrated in Mexico) and our kids were still snoozing..enjoying their day off school.

We ate huevos rancheros//eggs with salsa, tocino//bacon, frijoles//refried beans, and tortillas de harina hechas de mano//homemade flour tortillas. SOO delicious!

Later on in the day, there were 14 of us around the Thanksgiving Dinner table in our little house. Again, great food!!

Our brother in law, Steve, brought these delicious pies...apple and pumpkin. (Beth is in Indiana for a few weeks). We had a great Thanksgiving Day! So grateful to God for how good he is to us!

Thanks to so many of you who donated these items, we were able to provide lots of clothes and shoes to the students and their families. These two little sweethearts were having fun with the packing peanuts. :-)

Sis. Helen Reiff, giving her class on the Sunday School. She did an absolutely wonderful job, bringing so many materials with her to share with the students and SS teachers that were enrolled in the classes. So practical and helpful!

Missions Director Tim Keep taught classes throughout the week on Leadership and then preached in the weekend revival. Bro. Glen Reiff did a terrific job translating all Bro. Keep's classes, plus teaching 2 other courses of his own - Basic Bible Doctrines and Pastoral Theology. A HUGE week for these two men but they did a wonderful job, teaching with the annointing of the Holy Spirit and a passion for their subject matter.

Logan's Broken Arm

Logan fell a week ago today in front of the church in Rio Bravo and broke both bones in his left arm. I have a picture of the arm before it was set, but none of us can stand to look at it and it's probably not something I should share online. His first broken bone and he did it up right!

He was playing with his brothers and a bunch of Mexican kids, attempting to climb onto Cameron's shoulders (as boys are wont to do), when gravity took over and he hit the concrete. He tried to catch himself and the rest is history.

Pastor Santiago took Marc and Logan to a hospital which was blessedly close and the ER team (specialist, hospital doc and nurses) treated Logan so well....meds for the pain were administered and his arm was able to be set (while he was under anesthesia) without requiring surgery - thank You, Lord!

Seems like everything happens to this boy - guess some kids are just like that. :-)

Visit with Missions Director Tim Keep

We are so much enjoying having our new Missions Director Tim Keep here with us in Saltillo to visit the churches and pastors in this area. He will be accompanying us to the border this weekend to participate in the Mexican Bible Methodist General Assembly and teach in the Institute Classes in Rio Bravo this coming week.

Keyboard Needed in La Boca

Our pastor's daughter in La Boca, Teresa plays the piano well and is willing to provide the music for services in this village church. She learned to play the piano as a student at LABI several years ago and is using her talent to glorify God. However the church in La Boca does not have a piano/keyboard nor anyone in the church who plays guitar.

Do you have a keyboard you would like to donate to help meet this need? or possibly you would like to contribute toward the cost of purchasing one.

Teresa and I have discussed this and we have agreed to pray together about it until God supplies the need. If He would lay it on your heart to help, it would certainly be a blessing in our Bible Methodist Church in La Boca and an answer to prayer. The boys are off to a great start in homeschool this year - 10th, 8th and 6th grades. Our first day of school was Wednesday, August 11. I will say that Geometry and Physical Science are giving Jordan and me a stretch, but we're hanging in there.

Saltillo VBS

This year's VBS in Saltillo was the largest one they have ever had. I so much enjoyed participating and helping out every morning that week.

On Tuesday morning, Cesia (pastor's daughter, pink headband) had to take her class to the dining hall for craft time - she had almost 50 kids, ages 6 and under!

Sylvia called her twin daughters, Kenya and Christy, up to the front one day while teaching the Bible story, to illustrate what kind of twins Esau and Jacob were; twins, but not identical ones. I think these 2 are a lot cuter than Jacob and Esau were... :-)

I fell in love with this sweet little girl that week.

As I watched Pastor Dolores and his wife Sylvia, along with laymen and youth in the Saltillo church, organize and direct the VBS this year, I was struck again by the huge positive of our Mexican brothers and sisters ministering/taking the Gospel to their own people. No language and cultural barriers - they do it so much better than we could. We are simply here to aid/teach/equip them and they are fulfilling their own Great Commission!

Heartland Youth Camp 2010

We were so thankful to get to attend and participate in Heartland BM Youth Camp again this summer! Such a blessing to our family!

Logan had so much fun playing with his buddies, Jacob Snelling and Kenton Gurnee.

And here's Cameron studying Scriptures with his team. Jacinda Cravens and Jac Crawford were great coaches for Cameron's team - the Patriarchs!

Marc enjoyed announcing the Stars vs. Stiffs game again this year. Randy Brown was his able assistant. :-) (Randy and Tanya were awesome coaches for Jordan's team - the Prophets!)

Jordan made the All-Stars Softball Team this year - so proud of him. He did a great job playing!

It was so great to worship together and feel God's presence in the services. Scenes like this make every penny of expense to get here worth it!

I had fun helping with the Snack Bar and working with Jane Livengood again this year. Also being with lots of wonderful friends! And so glad Marc got to be with us this time - we missed him last year!

The Weavers are here and ministering in Mexico...

My sister Myranda, her husband Nathan and their children, Treyton, Jackson and Jada have arrived here in Mexico and we are loving having them here! They are spending this month in ministry: remodeling/construction, ladies ministry, music ministry, and more.

Here they are leaving the Immigration Office at the Mexico border - all smiles! Ready to enter Mexico!

The day after they arrived - Father's Day - our church in Saltillo had a special program and meal for all the fathers. It was a very special time.

On Sunday evening, we visited our church in San Rafael. Myranda fell in love with the adorable grandaughter of Pastor Alejando.

The next day we began the remodeling project in La Boca and Myranda and I started this module of English classes.

Beginning work on the La Boca church project...replacing the worn out, damaged stucco on the exterior adobe walls. Hard work in the hot sun, but the team did a great job.

One evening the 3 missionary families - Sankeys, Stetlers and Weavers enjoyed a delicious chocolate dessert made by Myranda on our back patio.

We took a day to relax and look around the city, etc. We went to the slide park - a must! So much fun. LOVE the look on Cameron's face!

We enjoyed a delicious supper at the home of Sis. Chelo and Bro. Lupe. Nathan and his family are long-time friends of theirs - and the chicken flautas were second to none.

After supper we went to the Mirador - the lookout over the city. This is Saltillo at dusk...nothing prettier.

I liked this shot of the boys against the night sky. So thankful for these 3 blessings from God.

We spent the 4th of July weekend on the border with plans to work at one of our churches and attend an area rally. Those plans had to be cancelled due to the violence and threats of more violence surrounding the Mexican elections on Sunday.

We have also been dealing with the after effects of Alex...damage from the flooding along the routes we take to and from the border - which has resulted in a little more time on the border than we had planned.

We received news this afternoon that the free road is open from Monterrey to Saltillo and we are planning to leave in the morning and head back home. We would appreciate your prayers as we travel over roads that have been damaged and are in the process of being repaired.

Just received word that Marc's Grandma Ferguson made her journey to Heaven this morning around 6 am. She had just had her 97th birthday and is now with her Lord and her beloved husband, Harry. Heaven just got sweeter this morning. :-)

Our weekend in Rio Bravo and Santa Apolonia

This past weekend we were privileged to attend the culto unido - united service - at our Bible Methodist Church in Rio Bravo. These services are held every few months and are a great time for our border churches to get together and fellowship with each other and worship the Lord together. All 4 of the border churches were represented by pastors and their people.

Conference President Dolores Hernandez (far left) was also present and took part in the service. Bro. Daniel Luna preached a wonderful message.

During the service, Pastor Santiago dedicated a precious baby boy to the Lord.

Isn't he precious? only 10 days old...

After the service, we handed out clothing, shoes, Bibles, tracts and resources to the people and pastors present. Thank you to those of you who have given these items!

On Sunday morning we visited our Bible Methodist Church and pastors in Santa Apolonia. This is Pastor Jose Cruz, the pastor who was recently hurt in an accident while working and will be having surgery this coming Tuesday. We would appreciate your prayers for him.

Our family sang during the service...Cameron accompanied us on his guitar. We're glad God has given Cameron this talent and that he's using it for God.

GBS Campmeeting 2010/SCCA Graduation

Marc was one of the evangelists for God's Bible School Campmeeting this year. We really enjoyed being on the campus and fellowshipping with everyone. The Lord helped Marc preach and the responsive, seeking hearts of the students were a blessing to see.

We went to Frisch's with the Craycrafts...Cameron and Jillian having fun.

Our niece Maria and her boyfriend Joe sang a beautiful special during one morning service.

We were able to drive over to Bedford, IN on Friday night to attend the SCCA Graduation Ceremony for our nephew Kent and my cousin Kenny.

My awesome cousin Kenny Stetler....Grandaddy and Granny would have been so proud of you, Kenny!

( I think I was trying to dodge his tassel...hence the crooked neck)

Then on Saturday morning, it was back to GBS for the graduation ceremony there.

We enjoyed getting to see our missions intern from last summer, Brennan Muir, graduate. He was/is such a blessing to our family!

I managed to get Joe just as he turned his tassel. :-)

Of course, during the week we had to fit in our favorite place to eat - Skyline!

Mother's Day 2010

This Mother's Day was the first in a long time that we were able to be with one of our moms. So thankful for that privilege this year.

Weekend meeting in Salem, OH

My parents and their church invited our family to sing and preach a weekend meeting in early May. We so much enjoyed being there with their wonderful people and also spending time with my family. We always have such a good time: lots of laughter, fun and games...and don't forget - delicious food!

The weekend after IHC we were privileged to spend a couple days with some very good friends.
Thanks, Shane and Tamra, for opening your home to us again . We had so much fun being with you!

We also had fun eating out with our wonderful friends, Brian and Janella Snelling.

Tamra put on a delicious spread on Sunday for lunch...her beautiful layered salad must not have been on the table yet.

On the way out of town, we stopped at the gravesite of our dear friend, Randy Loper, who's now enjoying Heaven. Our hearts are sad to lose him but we'll see him again one day!

How did it happen that I have a son old enough to attend VIP Day? Actually he's only in 9th grade, but we wanted to "take advantage" of the opportunity for him to attend and participate since we rarely are in the States.

Jordan and I had a great time. Thanks to my wonderful sis in law, Vonnie, for letting me tag along with her and to Dustin Muir for allowing Jordan to stay overnight with him.

So much has happened recently...my head's still kinda spinning. Please see my Facebook account for pictures of our wonderful Youth Convention last week in San Gabriel, Mixtepec, Oaxaca.

Now we've safely made it up north for a few weeks for Marc to fulfill some speaking engagements and to visit family and friends.

We so much enjoyed attending Faith Mission Church this morning. Pastor Hight preached a wonderful message that ministered to our hearts.

Each of them is addressing their topics with passion and excellence and a heart for our students. Thank you so much, Bros. Stetler and Alexander, for taking time to come and be with us and for investing in the lives of our pastors and students.

Enjoying delicious meals in the dining hall at our Saltillo church. Pastors' wife, Sylvia is in charge of meals and accommodations for this week and is doing an awesome job.

Yesterday we had our first ladies session. I am always amazed at the creativity of our ladies and their joy at learning new things. Thank you to SO many of you who have sent scrapbook supplies for our ladies to use - they are loving them!

Today is another full day of classes as is tomorrow and Friday...continue to pray for us as God brings it to your mind.

We just finished up our Level 3 English class module and I'm giving the oral exam to the students during the last class. I would read the sentences and they have to write what they hear using correct spelling - very hard to do in English!!

Cameron's first adjustment for his braces was today. The orthodontist was very pleased with the progress he has made so far. He chose red and blue rubber bands today. Never seen a kid so happy to go to the dentist...just can't wait to get in the chair!

Bible Methodist Day of Prayer - in Mexico

This past Sunday was the Bible Methodist Day of Prayer; in the United States as well as our mission fields: South Africa, The Philippines and Mexico. We were happy to participate at our Rio Bravo Church in the afternoon prayer service.

It was wonderful to pray together, and bring our needs to the One who knows no language barrier nor international boundary lines.

Afterwards we had a time of singing and praising the Lord together, then Marc preached.

We enjoyed celebrating Jordan's 15th birthday with him on the border - glad it worked out that we could.

He got to choose his favorite restaurant for lunch - Olive Garden in McAllen, TX. There is no Olive Garden in Saltillo, Mexico! :-)

Marc and Logan's weekend

Marc and Logan visited 2 of our border churches this past weekend: La Florida and Santa Apolonia.

They were able to give out lots of clothing, shoes, Bibles and other items sent from many of you in the States - thank you! You can see the smiles on their faces and that's its own reward. :-)

My husband is turning 40 today and, as my friend Angie Davis said about her husband turning 40, "it suits him". He has beaten incredible odds and with the help of God, has fought his way back to health from his terrible accident of 4 months ago. I have never known a man with more integrity and inner strength, a man more committed to his family and God's calling on his life. I am proud to be your wife, Marc and am so thankful God gave you back to me.

Sunday afternoon service in La Boca

Yesterday, our family drove out to the village of La Boca to attend the afternoon service at our Bible Methodist Church there. Along the road outside Saltillo, we saw this pretty cool sight...only there were lots more horses and riders - must have been close to 100.

Pastor Pablo and his wife Ofelia. They are doing a wonderful work here in La Boca. They started with 5 people a few months ago and yesterday afternoon we had 30 in the service. Several new families are coming and Sis. Ofelia told me she had 20 children in her Sunday School class that morning!

Bible Reading Contest

Our pastor's wife, Sylvia, is also the Sunday School Superintendent of our church in Saltillo. She has been motivating 3 of the Sunday School classes to read the Scriptures and has challenged the Primary, Intermediate, and Youth Classes to see who could read the most verses each week. For the past month she has been keeping records and today gave out the final prizes to each winner. For the Primary Class, Jazhiel was the winner; for the Intermediate Class, Marquitos (Cameron) was the winner and for the Youth Class, Melisa was the winner! I don't recall how many verses they read but they numbered in the thousands for each of them. Congratulations, kids - you did a great job!

Praises:
1. Marc's continued recovery - he is doing well!
2. A newly saved couple from the church in Cuchicuato (central Mexico), Bro. Juan and his wife and family, have felt God's call to the ministry and are enrolling in our Bible Institute classes to prepare themselves to be our next new pastors - so exciting!
3. New church plants are being started by quite a few of our existing churches; pastors and people are cooperating to take the Gospel to completely new areas.
4. Recent donation of a 15 passenger van, trailer and a motorcycle for use here in Mexico - big blessing!
5. God's protection on our family as we have traveled through some dangerous areas in Mexico.

Prayer Requests:
1. We are beginning revival here in our Saltillo church tonight - evangelist Bro. Abel Rodriguez, HIM pastor from Salamanca. We have passed out hundreds of announcements in the community...praying that God will give us new souls in this revival
2. a great grandson of Pastor Desi, pastor in San Gabriel, Oaxaca, has been ill in the hospital and has had an operation.
3. our Spring 2010 Bible Institute Classes are coming up soon here in Saltillo - March 29 - April 2. Visiting Professors: Dan Stetler and Paul Alexander
4. please pray for the indigenization process in Mexico...our pastors are gradually being taken off monthly US support/offerings and we are praying for God to supply their needs.
5. Our National Conference President Dolores Hernandez and his family - the responsibilities he carries for the conference as well as pastoring his church in Saltillo and the 2 missions in Zacatecas.
6. Our Bible Institute President Eliezer Balderas and his family - much preparation is taking place for the upcoming classes.

Logan's Bday

Logan turned 11 last week while we were up on the border for a few days, taking care of some business. We don't normally pose for bday pics in a Cars t-shirt but it was one of those birthdays that happens along with 100 other things that day...I'm sure you moms understand. :-)

Today at church, Logan went up front for his birthday. They say a special prayer for each person, sing Happy Birthday, then the whole church walks around to congratulate them - I love the tradition! The couple on the left celebrated their anniversary today. Logan, Beth, and Karla had bdays this past week and Kent's bday is tomorrow.

Making Kitchen Towels for the Mexican Pastors' Wives.....

My sister Missy and her mother in law, Judy Miller, are making and donating kitchen towels/pot holders that hang on a stove handle or kitchen cabinet handle. I have one that Judy gave me a couple Christmases ago and I just love it and use it all the time! It is getting quite worn out and Missy and Judy have agreed to make not only a few for me but one for each of our pastors' wives here in Mexico to include in their Care Packages we'll be giving out at the Institute Classes next month.

Thanks so much, Judy and Missy. I know the pastors' wives are going to enjoy these towels, and I know I will for sure enjoy mine!

Sunday in La Boca

Let me share with you a few photos of the ministry that took place in the village of La Boca on Sunday. Pastor Pablo, his wife Ofelia and daughter Teresa drive out every Sunday (an hour and a half one way) to minister in this poor village. These are our Mexican nationals, feeling the call of God on their hearts to fulfill their own Great Commission and to minister to their own people and culture. We are SO blessed to work arm in arm with such quality people/pastors.

Ministry in Zacatecas

This past weekend was a very busy weekend in ministry for a couple of our pastors and their families in the Saltillo/San Rafael region.

I would like to share a few photos with you and tell you about their ministry - our dedicated pastors, wives, and laypeople ministering to and in their own culture. We are privileged to work with such capable and committed nationals.

Early Saturday morning, Pastor Dolores and his entire family travelled 3 hours one way to visit and minister in the very poor regions of Zacatecas, the villages of San Antonio and Sabana Grande. They preach, teach the children, sing and give out clothing and shoes. Thanks to Bro. Dolores for these wonderful pictures and for your faithfulness to the people in the remote region of Zacatecas!

If you have recently donated shoes, clothes or blankets, you may recognize some of your items being given out. Thanks to your contributions, we were able to send 2 large boxes of clothes, shoes, and blankets along with the contributions from the church people and pastor here in Saltillo. Also given were Spanish Bible stories provided free of charge by Helping Hands Ministry based in the Rio Grande Valley - thanks so much, De and staff!

English Classes - Spring 2010

We have begun another module of English classes. For the next 8 weeks, Marc and I will be teaching 2 levels of English to church and community people.

The students in the First Level English Class on Saturday night. These 3 are from the community and came in response to our friendship with them (the guy on the right cooks the fabulous "street" chicken we love) and fliers we handed out. Their names are Gabriel, Andres and Jesus (Chuey). We were happy to invite them to come to church and get to know them better. They enjoyed English class!

Pastors' Wives Project

Because of the great response last year and the wonderful blessing to our pastors’ wives, I would like to do the Pastors’ Wives Care Package Project again this year in April as a ministry of our Bible Institute here in Mexico. My sister, Missy Miller and her mother in law, Judy Miller from the Beach City, OH Bible Methodist Church have agreed to make handmade kitchen towels for each lady as our personal touch for the packages this year. SO many of you responded to bless our pastors’ wives last year – thank you!

We are planning to make 15 care packages again this year. If you would like to participate, we would need your items shipped within the next month so that we can begin bringing them in from the border and preparing the packages. So many of these ladies are so poor and your items for the care packages are so special to them. Any non-breakable, non-perishable items of interest to Christian ladies are appreciated. We trust each of you have a wonderful holiday season as we celebrate Jesus' birth so long ago. The miracle of His birth has come alive to us in a new way this year and we thank Him for His amazing love...that brought Him all the way to us.

We give God thanks for His touch on Marc and the wonderful recuperation he is experiencing since his accident 8 weeks ago today. Daily, he is gaining strength and returning to his normal activities: missionary work, mentoring of pastors, handling of missions finances, family activities, etc. He has an appointment with the neurosurgeon in Celaya (central Mexico - 7 hours south of Saltillo) this coming Monday - we are expecting the doctor to again be pleased with his progress since there have been no complications.

We thank each of you who has prayed for Marc and our family during these past two months. We have relied on your prayer support and God's strength and have found His grace to be sufficient. Many of our Mexican pastors and families have been here to help and support us with so many details that needed to be cared for. Marc's parents came and spent 3 weeks with us, helping and supporting us - thanks, Mom and Dad. The love offerings, cards, emails and phone calls have encouraged our hearts - we thank you!

Thank you also, for the many Christmas cards and gifts our family is receiving during this time of the year. We feel your love and support so much.

After the first of the year, we will be turning our attention more fully to our missionary work and the normal duties that are ours, as Marc continues to recuperate. Thank you for your continued prayers for him and for our family. As we near the end of the first year of our Share Support, we thank God for each one who is faithfully supporting us each month - you are such a blessing to us.

We pray God's blessings on each of you this Christmas season - may His presence fill your hearts with joy!

Just a quick update on Marc - he's doing so well; the doctors are all amazed. He's still taking it very slow and is on several continuing medications, but his progress is remarkable. We see the head neurosurgeon on Monday afternoon and hope to go home to Saltillo on Tuesday. We're SO ready.

My computer has chosen this time to malfunction and is being worked on as I write (I'm using Marc's) therefore no new pictures in awhile. I'm supposed to be getting it back tomorrow - fixed! We'll see.

Thank you for praying for Marc. God is touching him in an awesome way!

This is the update Marc's dad wrote yesterday morning...thanks so much, Dad.

Celaya, Mexico. Again, many thanks for the prayers and concern of our Ropeholder family. This is Tuesday morning, Janet and I are in the hospitalroom with Marc and Melodie. Marc had a very good night of rest (and Melodierested well too), and this morning has shown the most improvement yet in hisrecovery. The ophthamologist was in last night and thinks that Marc's eyewill make a complete recovery. Though it is still swollen in the area ofthe eye, yet the bruising is receding, and the eye itself looks better. This morning, Marc (with aid of the nurse and Melodie) walked to the bathroom, was able to shower and wash his hair. Then he was able to seewell enough to walk across the room (and was walking better too) and sit down in a chair. The nurse re-dressed the suture line across the top of his head (Janet says the suture line is beautifully done [if such a thing can be"beautiful"]), cleaned out the actual wound area where the rock/piece ofconcrete had smashed into his forehead, and rebandaged that area and his nose that had been shattered. Right now he is eating almost normally though he says it hurts to swallow. Altogether, and thus far, this day has been very encouraging to all of us. As Melodie has mentioned, "The prayers of God's people are making adifference in my husband's life." From all of us - thanks for your prayer,and we earnestly request that you continue until God brings us the whole way through this present circumstance.

Marc's Accident

I'm sure that most of you have heard by now of my husband's accident that took place early this past Friday morning. A large piece of concrete entered through the windshield, hitting him in the forehead. His skull was fractured in 3 places, the worst fracture actually pressing the bone into his brain, requiring surgery. His left eye orbit was also crushed as was his nose and both of those had to be rebuilt.

Our Missions Director was traveling with Marc at the time of the accident and together they were able to get the vehicle off the road. An ambulance was called and according to the advice of a businessman who was at the roadside truck, they took Marc to a very good hospital in Celaya, Gto., Mexico. - Centro Medico Quirugico. He has been operated on and attended by 2 very competent neurosurgeons, a plastic surgeon and an opthmalogist. The nurses have been very attentive and I'm so thankful for the good medical care he is receiving.

The piece of his skull that was pressing on the brain was lifted and then put in place with several other broken pieces of his skull with titanium plates. Also the left eye orbit was repaired using a titanium plate.

The neurosurgeons are happy with his recovery so far. He has passed the first most critical 24 hour period - thank the Lord. He is dealing with alot of pain, but has been a trooper through all of this. Despite his skull being bashed in, he was able to walk to the ambulance, crawl in the back, and lay on the stretcher. He never lost consciousness once, but as a result has dealt with an incredible amount of pain.

I am so thankful for our wonderful friends, John Parker and Clair and Melba Sams. John surely saved Marc's life...I cannot imagine what would have happened if he had been alone. The Sams have fully taken over the care of our sons for me (even down to the dirty laundry). I cannot begin to explain how grateful I am that they are here with me. Most of our Mexican pastors have been here to pray and sit with Marc...Eli and Isela have spent hours with me, Pastor/Conf. Pres Dolores has taken care of important Missions business that Marc could not care for. Thank you so much.... Most of all, to my wonderful Lord, for sparing the life of my precious husband Marc.

This is of course a picture of our Sequoia, showing where the piece of concrete entered. I have other pictures of the vehicle and of Marc, but frankly, I am not ready to share them..maybe never. They are heartbreaking to me and too graphic to post.

Monday Night English Classes

This past Monday completed our second session of English classes here in Saltillo. We have really enjoyed teaching English and our students have learned so much.

Gift Blankets

The Girls Ministry Club of a church in New York recently sent us a shipment of adorable orange fleece blankets that say "Jesus Me Ama" - Jesus loves me, in Spanish - and just in time for the cooler weather!

We visited our pastor Jose Cruz and his family in Santa Apolonia on Sunday afternoon and were happy to give each of his children: Ruth and Isai each a blanket. They loved them!

This Past Sunday in Rio Bravo

We were blessed to spend part of this past Sunday with our Pastor Santiago, his family and the people at the border church in Rio Bravo.

Me and my wonderfully sweet friend, Refugia. We've been friends since we first moved to Mexico in late 2005. This is her precious daughter and another one's on the way! :-)

Last weekend in San Rafael

Last weekend, we attended the wedding supper of the pastor's son, Levi and his new bride, Claudia. It was a pretty outdoor wedding, despite the afternoon deluge that threatened to wash us all away. The meal and cake were delicious and we enjoyed fellowshipping with our BM people there in San Rafael.

We enjoyed attending and ministering in Sunday School the next morning.
