Elotes - Yum!

Ok - gotta introduce you to this wonderful Mexican snack called Elotes. When Rita Tomes first told me about this in the market in Progreso, I thought it sounded gross - until I tried it. Thanks, Sis. Rita! It is simply delicious! (Although my dad would disagree)

Here's what it is: Whole kernel corn (they use field corn down here), topped with mayonnaise, then Parmesan cheese and chile en polvo (chili powder). Then squeeze a liberal amount of lime juice over it, salt it good and enjoy!

Last night I had a craving for this snack and they make and sell them in the plaza (town square) here in Salamanca. Since there is basically no parking place to be had, we switched drivers - in the middle of the street; I drove around the block until Marc had time to run over to the vendor, order, pay and run back to the same spot to be picked up. I know - he's pretty great, isn't he?

Got an idea - Anthony and Marci and kids are arriving today and while they're here, we'll be sure to introduce them to this snack! What do you think - think they'll like it? Let me know. (I suppose Anthony's out - he hates mayonnaise)
Think Beth likes it? She tried it in San Miguel...

Have a great day ~ que tenga un buen dia ~

OK, I'll have to say, in all my time in Mexico, I never acquired a taste for those 'snacks'! Keep enjoying them!:)

Have fun with Anthony and Marci and family!! Glad they can come down. Let us know if there are any new WAKY CDS that we need to get, after their time there. HA!

Thanks for your nice comment on my blog.

OK... I admit, it doesn't sound that great to me, but since Beth likes it, I'm guessing I would like it too. It sort of reminds me of "Soppy Chocolate"... doesn't really sound good but its delicious!!! :)

Oh you tricked me! I saw that picture and thought,"YUM, some kind of White Chocolate Iced Capp, or maybe ice cream," how dissapointed I was to find out it was corn and mayonnaise. ;o) Enjoy your company and your new treat. :o)

Sounds to me like you are pregnant :) if you are having cravings of this sort. The combo doesn't even sound good. I assume it is served cold? Glad you like it though.

I'm trying to decide if I would like your "treat" or not.:) I have two sons-in-law that I'm sure would like them.
I've enjoyed reading and looking at the pictures that you've posted the last few times. Looks like lots of enjoyable times with family & friends.
Thanks for stopping by my blog and the kind comments.

I am game to try it! I am not a picky person so I'd probably like it. Sounds much better than Phil D's Cow hoof with boiled fur soup!

MAYO????? BLLLUUUUAAAAAHHHH!!!!! Sorry for being so graphic but come on!!!! And a quick retort back to Tamra...a real man can eat corn withOUT MAYO!!!!

We are having a blast here with Marc, Melodie, & boys...we had sweaty tacos (not sure if that is spelled right) I think sweaty means steamy. Tacos just don't get any better then these!!

We still have 7 days left!!

I don't care for corn and not too big on a lot of Mayo so I'm not sure I'd want to try it!

Good to see pictures of Steve and Beth. I will miss their smiling faces and Steve's greetings at the door when we enter the church next time we're there!

I haven't tried it with the mayo, but will have to sometime!! I've eaten corn with the chili powder and LEMON juice, (lime is close to the same) and really like it. It actually doesn't sound too bad with all the other stuff, so will definitely try it sometime!!! What I have had is served hot. It helps melt everything together and blend the flavors.

Steve and Beth and family came to church Sun. am. Ron was pretty nervous afterwards when he found out that Steve is Dan and Darrel's brother -- 2 of the "big time" preachers!!! I told him not to worry at all, because even "big time" preachers had to start somewhere!!!!

God bless you all,
Esther

Anthony, you have to at least try the "elotes" once. Come on, be a real man! Take the challenge! If I can eat grasshoppers, you can at least take a bit of elote!

You know who

Well, I will have to bow out on these "Elotes" snacks this time. Marci got one....just the thought of them makes me shudder. And even tho you (Steve Stetler) have eaten grasshoppers(you are the only one I know of that has eaten grasshoppers)...the question is, have you tried the "Elotes"? If so, how was it? If not, why not? HAHA

I just cant imagine wasting my taste buds on that when there are the most incredible tacos around here!!!

BTW...Melodie, thanks for washing my shoes! lol And Marc and I are very sorry we have stomped you and Marci in Rook! It's a moot point that we are the better players!

I need to make a small correction....the anonymous blogger who ate the grasshoppers was not Steve Stetler but it was Steve Hight! Sorry Bro Hight, but I did NOT try the Elotes!!! Give me grasshoppers any day! haha

You obviously haven't eaten grasshoppers, my dear!
