Our Ministry Trip to Honduras

Marc and I just got back from a wonderful trip to Honduras. Finally, I got to visit and see the place where he was born. He was the main speaker for the Campmeeting in San Luis, Honduras and we participated in the special music also. Such a wonderful time!

A highlight of the trip was getting to meet Hna. Marina in Miramelinda - one of the first converts Dad Sankey had after starting the mission work in Honduras in the 1960's.

The Conference presented us with beautiful gifts on the last night of the camp.

We so much enjoyed getting to stay in the Meltons' home and enjoy their wonderful hospitality and fellowship. Thank you so much!!

Thanksgiving 2010 in Saltillo, Mexico

We started off the day with an awesome Mexican breakfast made by our pastor's wife, Sylvia. Just the 4 of us around their table in the early morning...their kids were already at school (Thanksgiving is not celebrated in Mexico) and our kids were still snoozing..enjoying their day off school.

We ate huevos rancheros//eggs with salsa, tocino//bacon, frijoles//refried beans, and tortillas de harina hechas de mano//homemade flour tortillas. SOO delicious!

Later on in the day, there were 14 of us around the Thanksgiving Dinner table in our little house. Again, great food!!

Filling our plates....

Our brother in law, Steve, brought these delicious pies...apple and pumpkin. (Beth is in Indiana for a few weeks). We had a great Thanksgiving Day! So grateful to God for how good he is to us!

Our "new" home

Our family has recently moved to a small house nearer our Bible Methodist Church in Saltillo, right next door to the parsonage in fact, and we are loving being here! Here are a couple photos of our "new" home!

Fall 2010 Bible Institute Classes

Our Classes this fall were held in the Rio Bravo Bible Methodist Church in the border region on Mexico. The Lord gave us a wonderful time together!

Bible Inst President - Eliezer Balderas

Jordan was such a help in videoing the classes. Thanks, son!

Students/pastors

Marc teaching one of his missions classes.

Left: Assistant Pastor Bro. Juan from Cuchicuato (recently saved 2 years ago); Right: Pastor and long time church planter Desiderio from Oaxaca

Thanks to so many of you who donated these items, we were able to provide lots of clothes and shoes to the students and their families. These two little sweethearts were having fun with the packing peanuts. :-)

Sis. Helen Reiff, giving her class on the Sunday School. She did an absolutely wonderful job, bringing so many materials with her to share with the students and SS teachers that were enrolled in the classes. So practical and helpful!

Missions Director Tim Keep taught classes throughout the week on Leadership and then preached in the weekend revival. Bro. Glen Reiff did a terrific job translating all Bro. Keep's classes, plus teaching 2 other courses of his own - Basic Bible Doctrines and Pastoral Theology. A HUGE week for these two men but they did a wonderful job, teaching with the annointing of the Holy Spirit and a passion for their subject matter.

Thank you to all who contributed to make these classes possible - your donations for Mexico Student Aid go directly to the Institute Classes. May God bless each one of you who give for your generosity!

Logan's Broken Arm

Logan fell a week ago today in front of the church in Rio Bravo and broke both bones in his left arm. I have a picture of the arm before it was set, but none of us can stand to look at it and it's probably not something I should share online. His first broken bone and he did it up right!

He was playing with his brothers and a bunch of Mexican kids, attempting to climb onto Cameron's shoulders (as boys are wont to do), when gravity took over and he hit the concrete. He tried to catch himself and the rest is history.

Pastor Santiago took Marc and Logan to a hospital which was blessedly close and the ER team (specialist, hospital doc and nurses) treated Logan so well....meds for the pain were administered and his arm was able to be set (while he was under anesthesia) without requiring surgery - thank You, Lord!

Seems like everything happens to this boy - guess some kids are just like that. :-)

Visit with Missions Director Tim Keep

We are so much enjoying having our new Missions Director Tim Keep here with us in Saltillo to visit the churches and pastors in this area. He will be accompanying us to the border this weekend to participate in the Mexican Bible Methodist General Assembly and teach in the Institute Classes in Rio Bravo this coming week.

So happy to have him here!

Keyboard Needed in La Boca

Our pastor's daughter in La Boca, Teresa plays the piano well and is willing to provide the music for services in this village church. She learned to play the piano as a student at LABI several years ago and is using her talent to glorify God. However the church in La Boca does not have a piano/keyboard nor anyone in the church who plays guitar.

Do you have a keyboard you would like to donate to help meet this need? or possibly you would like to contribute toward the cost of purchasing one.

Teresa and I have discussed this and we have agreed to pray together about it until God supplies the need. If He would lay it on your heart to help, it would certainly be a blessing in our Bible Methodist Church in La Boca and an answer to prayer. You may email me at melodiesankey@yahoo.com to correspond.

Thank you and God bless!

Leonard & Janet Sankey's 50th Wedding Anniversary

I am reposting this note from my sister - in - law, Vonnie Bryan.

Announcement: My parents, Rev. and Mrs. Leonard (Janet) Sankey are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on September 17th, 2010. To honor them for this accomplishment, their children, Beth Sankey Stetler, Marc Sankey and myself, would like to invite you to send them a card.

Their address is 2516 Washington Ave. Bedford, IN 47421. Gifts are not necessary, but if you REALLY want to send something, they would appreciate a monetary gift to offset their travels to see their far-flung children. (what can we say, they love us? :D ) We know many of you already gave them a card at IHC when they honored them there, please feel no obligation to send another card or gift!!

We (Marc and Melodie) are looking forward to their visiting us here in Mexico in a few weeks!

A thank you note from Teresa

Teresa and her sweet baby, Leonardo

So many of you have sent Back to School and Sunday School Supplies recently for our people here in Mexico. We have been so blessed by your generosity!

Here is a note of thanks from Teresa, our pastor's daughter in La Boca. She works every Sunday with the children's ministry in this village church.

"Muchas gracias a todos los hermanos y hermanas que comparten todo esto con nosotros. Que Dios pueda bendecirles rica mente." //
"Thank you so much to all the brothers and sisters who have shared all of this with us. May God bless you richly."

Scrapbook Supplies Needed in Mexico

U.S. Scrapbook Friends: Lord willing, we will be having 3 Scrapbook/S.S. Projects Sessions in our upcoming Fall Bible Methodist Institute Classes here in Mexico (Oct . 18-24) We are currently running low on supplies. You can send the supplies to our TX address: 2112 W. University Dr. PMB1122 Edinburg, TX 78539. If you ship them within the next couple weeks, we should be able to receive them in plenty of time.

Thanks for all you've done in the past to make this an awesome project for your Mexican sisters!

First Day of Sankey Homeschool '10-'11

The boys are off to a great start in homeschool this year - 10th, 8th and 6th grades. Our first day of school was Wednesday, August 11. I will say that Geometry and Physical Science are giving Jordan and me a stretch, but we're hanging in there.

Jordan's 1st day of 10th grade

Cameron's 1st day of 8th grade

Logan's 1st day of 6th grade

I didn't realize until I was uploading these pictures that all the boys have on gray t-shirts. That certainly wasn't planned... :-) Maybe their brains were all thinking alike as they chose their clothes for that morning.
We would appreciate your prayers for the boys (and the teacher!!) this year, that God would help them develop and use their minds and talents for Him.

Saltillo Campmeeting 2010

We enjoyed attending and participating in our Annual Camp here in Saltillo a few weeks back.
Here's Christy checking out the announcement on the white board. Gotta know what's going on if you're the pastor's daughter. :-)

Marc was asked to preach on Tuesday and Friday nights...the Lord helped him do a wonderful job.

The other evangelist - Hno. Berzain from Monterrey, N.L. Mexico

Saltillo VBS

This year's VBS in Saltillo was the largest one they have ever had. I so much enjoyed participating and helping out every morning that week.

On Tuesday morning, Cesia (pastor's daughter, pink headband) had to take her class to the dining hall for craft time - she had almost 50 kids, ages 6 and under!

The VBS kids singing songs and doing the motions.

Thanks so much to the Oklahoma City BMC for donating these craft items for the kids to use. We appreciate your contributions!

Melisa with her class of girls. Melisa (daughter of Jose Correa) is very gifted in children's ministry. I believe the Lord has a special place for her to work in His kingdom!

Some of the boys listening to Pastor Dolores tell the story of Abraham and Isaac.

Sylvia called her twin daughters, Kenya and Christy, up to the front one day while teaching the Bible story, to illustrate what kind of twins Esau and Jacob were; twins, but not identical ones. I think these 2 are a lot cuter than Jacob and Esau were... :-)

The Sunday morning VBS program...many parents came to enjoy the presentation.

I fell in love with this sweet little girl that week.

As I watched Pastor Dolores and his wife Sylvia, along with laymen and youth in the Saltillo church, organize and direct the VBS this year, I was struck again by the huge positive of our Mexican brothers and sisters ministering/taking the Gospel to their own people. No language and cultural barriers - they do it so much better than we could. We are simply here to aid/teach/equip them and they are fulfilling their own Great Commission!
